I am a Portuguese Designer/Photographer living and working in Cardiff, Wales.

CMYK – An informational set of four posters educating young children on colour mixing and blending. Three individually printed A2 posters with the fourth poster a four-layer overprint.

These posters caught my eye a while back and I'm loving the geometrical infographic work by Ian Edward Prentice, a recent graduate from the Leeds College of Art.

The juxtaposing of the simple triangular pieces composes itself in an explosion of multiplied color. Very cool indeed.

OutSmartastic

Really happy to have submitted my little old illustration to the cool OutSmart project. It is all about that little cool Smart car.

The deadline for submissions just passed by but if you're really nice I heard that Gemma is still accepting all the way to the 12th of September.

Screen Printing made easy

I have to say that Screenprinting has always fascinated me, if it wasn't for a course I took earlier this year I would have never had experienced the joy of doing it.

It is a process pretty similar to stencilling, requiring many skills and providing great fun.

There is so much to do with it and many ways of doing it. You can find tutorials everywhere online, like the one above or others suggesting cheaper alternatives like here and here.

If I wasn't living in a rented flat I would already turned my room into a much more coloured one.

Nicola Meiring for Biblioteq

Found about Nicola's work for Biblioteq two months ago and was heavily impressed, I love her intricate architectural illustrative style. The piece in its final work looks really ace on glass, make me want to go to that bookshop now.

Nicola is a South African illustrator that is currently living in England with hopes to create her first illustrated children's book. After browsing her site I kept thinking on how I haven't found her before, instantly became on of my favourite illustrators, the use of geometry in her concepts is very inspiring.

Do check mrs Meiring out. Trés cool.

Laura Barnard

Having found Laura's work some months ago on a random RSS inspiration feed, most probably Abduzeedo's, it let me in awe. That style was something I've always dreamed to emulate, the precise hand drawn lines combined to that almost watercolory look is great.

She has recently been part of the 'HP Artist Wallpaper Series' and well deserved. Inspiring work to say the least.

Photomarathon

Media_httpfarm5static_ajgqp

Yesterday (the 12th of June 2010) was my third go at Photomarathon and this time they moved it to digital. Compared to the previous times this year the event was sold out, completely packed. There wasn't anywhere in Cardiff you could go without spotting people with their bright orange wristbands and a camera on the other arm.

The concept is simple, you get 12 hours to complete 12 themes. It really is something knowing that it first appeared out of nowhere to become a national event, there were people from everywhere of the UK there. From amateurs to professionals, everyone was the same.

The photo above was my first of the twelve I submitted, usually the tradition dictates that the first one is your entry number and I was 144.

You can check out other entries on the unofficial event's flickr pool.

Audrée Lapierre Lapierre | Nutritional Facts packaging

Media_httpwwwaudreela_uiehx

Found this packaging via The Dieline and loved it straight away, the way that the infographics are incorporated on the design really takes the monotony of milk cartons away and make them unbelievably fun to interact with, almost like a science project.

Audrée Lapierre is a Graphic designer hailing from Montreal, Canada and is works for Rita and Ffunction with distinct kind of great works on both of them, don't forget to check her own website for inspiration, her color work is amazing.

Cristiana Couceiro

Found this designer / illustrator from reading Design Week, she was the creative behind the latest vintage Stella Artois campaign. I was always excited by this campaign, the use of colours and shapes is amazing. Got even more excited when I learnt that it came from a Portuguese designer.

Cristiana already got her work on Creative Review, Wired Magazine, The New York Times, among many others. It is strange when you find someone that had been in so many publications and isn't that heard of

Check her website www.cristianacouceiro.com and her blog is full of delightful little things, such as photos found in the street and vintage postcards bought at 'Feira da Ladra', Lisbon's topmost flea market.

To Haiti with Love

21_05_2010

Twitter is great for finding gems, this time got a tip from @creativereview and found tohaitiwithlove.co.uk, basically they are an initiative by artists around the world to raise money for the rebuilding of Haiti. The whole point of it will be to raise up to £100,000 to ship as many flat packed swedish houses to Haiti as they can. As soon as I saw that I was gobsmacked how there are people like that out there that put their whole hearts out to help, they aren't the only ones (check The Renmen project) but I wish there were plenty like them.

The above image is my own submission to it, hopefully I can help them out with achieving their goals and if you have a chance too, why not?

George Butler

Inafrica

Going through my RSS feeds for inspiration I came across this guy that apparently got himself to Africa and started a travel blog focused on his drawings, this is something that really fascinates me in a way that I always wanted to do that, with the predicament that I can't draw that well. The kind of quick style he shows there makes it special and live. Very inspiring.

Check his travel blog here and his portfolio too.
